Jakob Cansler

Journalist & Editor

I’ve been in journalism since I was 11 years old, when I started my own local newspaper. It lasted just three weeks, but I’ve never looked back. Now, I’m a professional journalist and editor with experience covering international affairs, U.S. politics, and their intersection with popular culture.

I got my start doing political reporting and fact-checking at Washington Monthly before spending more than three years at World Politics Review, where I worked across nearly every side of a small publication — writing, editing, production, marketing, and eventually producing WPR’s flagship daily newsletter. I’ve covered everything from global elections and major conflicts to climate change and technology. I also wrote regular features exploring the intersection of international politics and culture, interrogating how ideas move across the globe.

In 2025, I took a deliberate detour. I moved to the Netherlands to pursue a master’s degree in international relations at Leiden University, which I’ll be completing in June 2026. I’m looking for what’s next, so drop a line if you have any questions, opportunities, or ideas you want to send my way.
